Zack Greinke started the season on fire, posting eight wins in his first ten starts and putting up a ridiculous 0.84 ERA over that span. Then something happened which we see often in sports - regression to the mean. Greinke is good but not that good, and over his next four games he went 0-2 with a 5.19 ERA. He pitched well last outing but the fact remains, he's still overrated. The Royals are 2-5 in their last seven games averaging just 3.0 runs per game. They are averaging 3.4 runs per game on the road on the season. They are 13-31 since early May - the worst record in the American League by far. They do not deserve to be laying this kind of wood on the road. Especially against a Pittsburgh team that scores nearly five runs per game at home and has posted a 21-13 mark here (22-12 against the run line). The Pirates are 5-1 in their last six, putting up 5.6 runs per game in the process. While the Pirates can win this, Greinke has been good. But to ask the Royals to put up enough runs to win on the road by 2+ runs is really asking a lot. KC is 16-25 on the road against the run line the past two seasons after 4+ straight road games. They are 4-11 this season after three straight losses. Even with Greinke on the mound, the Royals are just 3-11 against the run line on the road the past two seasons when coming off a loss. The Pirates are 10-1 vs. the run line at home in June and I look for that to go t 11-1 today.

The Under is 8-1 when the Indians are favored by this margin on the road and the Under is 4-0 for the Pirates when they face lefties at home of late.

Zimmerman has only lasted an average of 5.6 innings per start over his last 3 outings and the Nationals bullpen although they have pitched better lately they have struggled at home this season with an ERA of 5.40. Texas is slipping in the American League West. After having a four-game lead just 10 games ago, the lead has been cut to zero as the Angels have caught Texas in the division. The Rangers did pick up a much needed win last night and it was unexpected as they were able to beat Dan Haren thanks to an even better effort from Vicente Padilla. Arizona continues to struggle on offense as it has been hit or miss with this team. The Diamondbacks could get some production tonight from the bats as they square off against Scott Feldman. Feldman has a terrific run of six straight quality starts but his last three have produced none and things could be going from bad to worse as team are finally starting to figure him out. He is 4-1 on the road but his ERA is 4.26 which is nothing great and only half of his road outings have been quality performances. He squares off against Jon Garland who is turning the corner in the other direction. Despite Arizona losing his last six starts, three of his last four outings have been quality starts including his last two where has allowed a combined three runs in 14 innings of work. Obviously the run support has been lacking but that has not been the case at home where the Diamondbacks have averaged 6.0 rpg in his seven home starts. His 7.82 home ERA looks atrocious but four of those seven starts have been good ones and that inflated number is attributed to three games and even though it is three too many, he is in a better state right now to follow up his last start at Chase Field which was in fact a quality performance. Arizona falls into a solid underdog situation as well. Play against road favorites of less than -150 with a starting pitcher who averages three or fewer strikeouts per outing going up against a National League opponent with a starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.55 to 1.65 on the season. This situation is 35-14 (71.4 percent) since 1997. 3* Arizona Diamondbacks Fargo was on the short end Wednesday as he was cursed by late inning runs once again. After a strong start to the year, June has not been his month but he gets back in form with a MONSTER AFTERNOON REPORT! Nevertheless, I think Harden likely steps up a bit today and aids his increased era in this start. The Under is 4-1 for the Tigers when the total is set at this mark and the Under is 5-0 in Fletcher's last 5 games behind the plate.

The Royals took Game One of this series last night and they can use that to build some momentum following their recent five-game losing streak. That came right after a four-game winning streak and Kansas City has been a very streaky team this season. The offense has improved of late, scoring five runs or more in seven of their last nine games. The Astros fells to 16-19 at home with that defeat on Tuesday so the home field edge is not a big advantage this season. They are big favorites tonight based on the fact Roy Oswalt is pitching but he has been far from a solid proposition this season. He is having one of his worst seasons and has been extremely inconsistent from the start. He is coming off a complete game but he allowed five runs while throwing a season-high 126 pitches. He is 2-2 with a 4.26 ERA at home and Houston is just 3-4 in his seven home starts. Oswalt is allowing opponents to hit .287 at Minute Maid Park on the year. He will be opposed by Luke Hochevar who is coming off another poor performance but only two of his six starts this season have been really rough ones. The Royals are 3-3 in his games this season and following a horrible performance in his opening start, his ERA is a more respectable 4.60 in his last five outings with two of those being quality starts. Houston is hitting just .252 over its last 10 games including a mere .237 against right-handed pitching. Conversely, the Royals are hitting .267 and .269 respectively. The Royals are 7-2 in their last nine Interleague games against a team with a losing record while the Astros are 1-6 in their last seven Interleague games against a team with a losing record. This line is on the low side for a home game for the Angels and the public is biting. Los Angeles dropped its last two games in its series against the Dodgers and that halted a seven-game winning streak. Matt Palmer gets the call for the Angels and he is looking to stay undefeated on the season. He has been pitching very well of late but his undefeated record is mostly due to good fortunes as opposed to stellar pitching. In his nine starts, only four have been quality outings while in four of his other starts he has allowed four runs or more. His last three starts have been quality outings but all have come against weak offenses which will not be the case tonight. Colorado remains red hot and it is a team that is simply finding ways to win. The Rockies have now won five straight games and are 16-1 over their last 17 games. This includes wins in eight straight road games. During this stretch, the offense has averaged 6.3 rpg but it is the pitching that has been the big catalyst as the Rockies have allowed only 3.5 rpg over those 17 games. One pitcher who has been part of this success is Aaron Cook who is starting to throw like he did in 2008. He has tossed three straight quality outings while posting a 2.14 ERA over that span. His overall ERA has come down to 4.23 and is is that high due to two rough outings in his first three starts this season. Take those out and his last 11 starts have resulted in a very healthy 3.18 ERA. The Rockies are 6-1 in Cook’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record and on the season, Colorado is 12-5 in its 17 road games against teams with a winning record. 3* Colorado Rockies
